Lakeland Roof Cleaning: Should You Try to Clean Your Own Roof?

blog 4 1

Does your roof need cleaning? But do you think you can do it on your own rather than call a professional Lakeland roof cleaning? While it is not practical to clean your own roof, many homeowners have done it in the past. Some were mildly successful while others had to call a professional roofer to correct the mistakes they have done. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give yourself the chance to try to do it yourself.

But before you try to clean your roof, you need the right materials. What are these materials? Make sure you have these before you try to clean your roof. The tools required are full-body safety harness, garden hose, garden spray nozzle, non-corrosive roof cleaner, lye or other non-toxic cleaning material, and supplemental water pump.

What You Need to Know Before Climbing on Your Roof

Molds and black streaks on your roof make it look dilapidated and worn out. While professional cleaners are the best option to clean the roof, they cost a couple of hundreds of dollars. If you are uncomfortable about hiring someone for your roof, you can try to clean it yourself. Before doing so, make sure you are not afraid of heights and you are ready for the steep slope.

To protect yourself, as well as your spotters, you need to wear a full-body harness. This is especially important if your house has a second floor or attic that you have to climb. Make sure you are secured to the harness before you climb up the roof.

You need to be able to carry the materials to the roof. That includes the low-pressure washer, brush, and non-corrosive cleaning materials. You can ask someone else to send the materials to you once you have climbed up the roof. That is far safer than you carrying the materials when you climb to the roof.

There are plenty of cleaning materials that you can choose from. You probably came across a tutorial saying you need a few gallons of household bleach and a power washer. Do not follow this advice. Power washers can damage the shingles on the roof. Even at low pressure, washers can cause serious damages. Chlorine bleach is also not the best kind of cleaning material for the roof.

If you want to clean the roof by yourself, you have to use the right cleaning chemicals and tools. At the end of the day, it is still more practical for homeowners to call a professional Lakeland roof cleaning company.
